Some Facts About Us

Not Your Average Massage

We’re redefining what “massage” means, one patient at a time.

Our muscles carry the the weight of stress, injury, trauma, and years of misuse. Therefore, our techniques seek to not just relieve the pain, but put you on the path of recovery.

We refuse to make you believe that a little oil and a little pressure will change your life. Identifying the problem and correcting it requires technique, time, and education, all of which we provide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times will I need to come in to get better?

If your condition is acute (10 days or less) this can sometimes be resolved in 2-3 sessions. If it is chronic, (Lasting longer than 2 weeks) we prefer to see you 1-2 times per week for a 6 week period.

Do you accept insurance, medicare or medicaid?

No. We can provide you with a bill, that you can submit for reimbursement, but we do not file claims. For those of you with "Flex" spending accounts, sometimes they will work if your provider has authorized soft tissue treatments.

Do I have a knot in my muscle?

No! We refer to them as a Trigger Points or Chronic Excessive Muscle and Nerve Tension. They are areas of dysfunction in the muscle tissue that refer pain and are really uncomfortable.

Can you fix me?

No! We do not "Fix" people. Think of us as accountability partners and resource guides on your path to wellness, and recovery. Ultimately, you are responsible for your healing, and this is a partnership.

Should I use Ice or Heat?

This is situational. For acute injuries, ice is a great way to help reduce excessive swelling which acts also as a natural analgesic. The flip side to this is that icing too frequently can inhibit the body’s natural inflammatory response, which can impede many biological healing functions. Heat can sometimes increase the inflammatory process, exacerbating the issue at hand.

Does drinking water help flush toxins after a massage?

Your liver is responsible for dealing with toxins that enter the blood stream. Your body keeps what is needed and releases the waste via urination, defecation and sweating. That being said, drinking water is wonderful at anytime, but it is not going to expedite this process.

What toxins are released during a massage?

Typically you will experience some degree of soreness post massage. Often times people will say that toxins are being released when in reality you are experiencing a cytokine response, Multiple cellular and molecular processes are rapidly activated following skeletal muscle damage to restore normal muscle structure and function. These processes typically involve an inflammatory response and potentially the consequent occurrence of secondary damage before their resolution and the completion of muscle repair or regeneration. The overall outcome of the inflammatory process is potentially divergent, with the induction of prolonged inflammation and further muscle damage, or its active termination and the promotion of muscle repair and regeneration. The final, detrimental, or beneficial effect of the inflammatory response on muscle repair is influenced by specific interactions between inflammatory and muscle cell-derived cytokines that act as positive and/or negative regulators to coordinate local and systemic inflammatory-related events and modulate muscle repair process. A crucial balance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines appears to attenuate an excessive inflammatory reaction, prevent the development of muscle fibrosis, and adequately promote the regenerative process. In this review, we address the interactive cytokine responses following muscle damage, in the context of induction and progression, or resolution of muscle inflammation and the promotion of muscle repair.

How can I fix my posture?

Posture is completely subjective from our vantage point. We believe if you’re not in chronic pain, and able to move without dysfunction, then your posture is your posture in spite of people always saying “Stand up straight!” If your structurally limited in movement, and experience chronic pain, this is the time to see if your posture needs tweaking. In some cases structural limitations can be improved with soft tissue and corrective movements to optimize movement.

How do I work on my core? I was told it's weak

Realistically, you’re able to access a minimal amount of core muscles. Transverse Abdominis, Obliques and a few others if you are really self aware and trained. Otherwise, most of these are working at all times without the need for your control. I would look more to specific dysfunction in prime moving muscles.
